Judge: CalPERS Pensions Not Protected in Stockton Bankruptcy
A federal judge has ruled that pensions run by the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) are not protected from being cut in bankruptcy proceedings. The decision came Wednesday in a bankruptcy hearing for the city of Stockton, which did not cut its employees pensions as part of its plan to emerge from insolvency.

New state legislation signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown this week aims to force unwanted tenants from vacant properties.
