Homeless Deaths Remembered Across the State
Every year, thousands of homeless people die in the U.S. They are being remembered at events across the country this week as part of National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day. In Santa Cruz, an annual memorial at the Homeless Services Center included a recitation of names; thirty-eight homeless people who all passed away in parts of Santa Cruz County this year.

Sikh-Americans Tell Their Story with Rose Parade Float
Joining the usual high schools, civic groups, and other sponsors at Pasadena's annual Tournament of Roses Parade is a Sikh-American float. The float design includes giant peaches; the country's largest peach grower is Sikh, and a locomotive to honor Sikhs who worked on the first railroads in the Pacific Northwest. The centerpiece will be a replica of the Sikh temple in Stockton, built in 1912.
