Prison Laborers Eligible for Faster Release in New Year
As of tomorrow, thousands of prisoners in California who cook, clean, collect garbage, garden and even fight fires will be eligible to earn their way out of prison more quickly than in the past. The change is part of the state's effort to comply with a federal court order to ease overcrowding in California's prisons.

California's Undocumented Immigrants Get Ready for the DMV
Immigrants living in the state illegally have had a few ways to get around: take the bus, walk, get rides from friends, or drive without a license; and many do. Starting January 2nd, they can apply for drivers licenses. That's because a state law passed in 2013 goes into effect in the New Year.
