Nation's Largest Solar Plant Officially Opens in Riverside County
One of the world's largest solar power plants opened in Riverside County yesterday, on a stretch of desert near Joshua Tree. U.S Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell spoke at the dedication. The Desert Sunlight Solar Farm is made up of six square miles of shiny black solar panels and it's expected to power about 160,000 homes in the state.

The state has drafted a plan to make sure oil companies don't contaminate underground drinking water. That's in response to a federal deadline and amid reports that for years, state regulators allowed oil companies to inject wastewater into protected aquifers.
