San Francisco Bookstore Survives on Alternative Business Model
A beloved sci-fi and fantasy bookstore on a trendy street in San Francisco's Mission district recently announced it was closing shop. The owner of Borderlands Books pointed to a recent increase of the city's minimum wage as the reason. Customers urged Borderlands to try a sponsorship model, and to the surprise of its owner more than 300 people signed up. Now, the store will stay open.

Warm, Dry Weather Threatens Way of Life at Lake Tahoe
All anybody can talk about in Lake Tahoe this winter is the lousy weather. While the East Coast has been pummeled with snow, this is the fourth year in a row that the ski slopes in Tahoe have been pretty dry. Some smaller resorts are barely hanging on while the big players are carving out new ways to make a profit.
