Los Angeles' Metropolitan Water District is offering to buy water from rice farmers in the Sacramento Valley. Rice farmers could make about $2,100 selling the water it takes to grow just one acre of rice -- and that means they could make more money by selling their water than by selling their crops.

The LAPD patrol division of Newton, the setting of the film "End of Watch," has been troubled by gang and drug activity. Recently, the LAPD has come under scrutiny for allegedly practicing the sort of aggressive policing that's celebrated in that movie. As a result, the LAPD recently appointed a new captain to the division. A big part of Jorge Rodriguez's job will be to win back support by practicing "community policing."
