State Lawmakers Beat Budget Deadline, But No Deal Yet With Governor
California lawmakers approved the outlines of a new state budget on Monday, meeting their constitutional deadline. That means they'll still get paid. But here's the catch: Gov. Jerry Brown hasn't signed on to the rosy revenue assumptions adopted by lawmakers.

Court Could End State's Patchwork of Concealed Gun Laws
If you want to get a permit to carry a concealed gun in California, you have to show "good cause." In most cases, that's decided by the county sheriff. In San Diego County, the sheriff denied Edward Peruta a permit in 2009 to carry a concealed weapon, in part because he didn't show "good cause." Peruta sued the sheriff. The case went all the way to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals last year, which struck down the "good cause" requirement. That case is going to be heard again Tuesday.
