The board of the Metropolitan Water District, Southern California's main water supplier, voted Tuesday to pursue buying 20,000 acres of land in the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta. The purchase would include two islands that are directly in the path of a pair of proposed tunnels that would send water to Southern California.
