It looks less and less likely that the ban on commercial Dungeness crab fishing will be lifted this season. Levels of domoic acid in crabs are still high, but what is it? We wanted to find out more, and discovered a little-known chapter in California history -- one that ties together Alfred Hitchcock, his movie "The Birds" and domoic acid.
