The State Board of Education approved a new K-12 social studies blueprint Thursday that will teach students about LGBT history starting in elementary school. Gov. Jerry Brown signed a historic law requiring public schools to adopt LGBT curriculum five years ago, but legal challenges and budget cuts put that on hold. Conservative groups like the California Family Council fiercely oppose the move.
