About 1,500 people gathered in Oakland last night for a "vigil of light." Some 36 people died in California's deadliest structural fire since the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906. To remember them, the mourners lit electronic candles. Organizers specifically requested no open flames on any of the memorials.
