Gov. Brown Readies State of the State Address
California is facing uncertainty on everything from its social policies to its budget as President Donald Trump takes over. Gov. Jerry Brown will have the job of reassuring the state and setting his priorities for the coming year in his annual State of the State address this Tuesday.
Brown Continues to Tighten State Spending
Gov. Jerry Brown is famously frugal. He made waves 40 years ago for sleeping on a mattress and driving a beat-up car during his first tour as governor. But he doesn't just skimp in his personal life. Brown has spent the last six years reigning in state spending and this year looks to be no different. That's despite the fact that voters approved two ballot measures last November to increase funding for health and education.
