Update 4 p.m. On YouTube, here's a guy who headed for the basement when he heard the tornado warning, only to report an hour later that maybe he overreacted.

I don't know, did he?

1:30 p.m. Strange weather. Funnel cloud at Ocean Beach, at least according to this YouTube user:

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado alert for San Mateo County. The alert lasts until 11:30 a.m. A funnel cloud has hit Santa Rosa, the Press Democrat reports.

* AT 1058 AM PDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO NEAR HALF MOON BAY...OR 10 MILES WEST OF BELMONT... MOVING NORTHEAST AT 30 MPH.

* OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO HILLSBOROUGH AND HALF MOON BAY

Instructions:IF YOU ARE CAUGHT OUTSIDE...SEEK SHELTER IN A NEARBY REINFORCED BUILDING. AS A LAST RESORT...SEEK SHELTER IN A CULVERT...DITCH OR LOW SPOT AND COVER YOUR HEAD WITH YOUR HANDS. THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE DURING A TORNADO IS IN A BASEMENT. GET UNDER A WORKBENCH OR OTHER PIECE OF STURDY FURNITURE.
