Santa Clara police fatally shot someone while responding to a report of a stabbing on Wednesday morning, according to the department.

Officers responded to a home in the 1800 block of Eisenhower Drive in north Santa Clara around 6:18 a.m., after someone called police to report a stabbing in the home.

Officers arrived and shot the suspect. The person was taken to a hospital and later pronounced deceased, police said in a press release on Wednesday.

“The officer was not injured as a result of the incident,” the statement said. The victim of the stabbing was hospitalized and is being treated for their injuries.

Police released no other details, but department officials said they expect to provide an update on the incident on Thursday afternoon.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and the Santa Clara Police Department are conducting a joint investigation.
