The Sunday Music Drop is a weekly radio series hosted by the KQED weekend news team. In each segment, we feature a song from a local musician or band with an upcoming show and hear about what inspires their music.

Folk musicians The Singer and the Songwriter (Rachel Garcia and Thu Tran) are based in Oakland. In this episode of The Sunday Music Drop, Garcia talks about how their song “Over Easy” is about her dad, and about being carried and feeling safe and comfortable in a parent’s arms. “We make really straight-ahead folk music,” Garcia told KQED.

The Singer and the Songwriter have a show at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley on Sept. 13, 2022.
