In last-minute evacuations reminiscent of last year's North Bay fires, residents of Redding fled the fast-moving Carr Fire.
A local firefighter and a bulldozer operator were killed during the wildfire that is "taking down everything in its path," according to Cal Fire spokesman Scott McLean.
The fire has already burned through two communities and forced more than 37,000 people to evacuate from their homes.
