The San Joaquin County Sheriff-Coroner, who was accused last year of meddling in death investigations, appears to be losing his bid for re-election. Results show the three-term sheriff Steve Moore trailing his opponent by 15 points.

On the Ballot: The Fate of a Troubled Hospital in Modoc County

Earlier this week, we told you about a tiny rural hospital in California’s northeastern corner that has gone bankrupt. Voters had to decide in Tuesday’s election whether to sell it to an out-of-state entrepreneur. In early returns, 83 percent of voted for the sale.
