Taking Education Funding Problems to Court
As the budget crisis ripples through the state's school districts, painful cuts in staffing and services are prompting lawsuits. A group representing thousands of low-income and minority students filed suit against the state yesterday. It's the second lawsuit of its kind filed this year.

California Watch: Understaffing in Nursing Homes
This week, a jury in Humboldt County is expected to consider additional punitive damages against one of the largest nursing home chains in the nation, in a class-action case brought on behalf of patients in 22 facilities. The jury's already awarded record damages against Orange County-based Skilled Healthcare over claims it failed to provide adequate staffing.
