Breaking It Down With SoVoSo
Thanks to the holiday season, you may have seen or heard a bit of the Nutcracker in the past few months. The classic ballet has an elaborate plot and a huge cast; but there's a much simpler version performed a-cappella by the Oakland-based group SoVoSo. Five of its members join us in the studio to sing and talk about their work.
A Roundtable of Poets
"Sometimes in the Open" is the title of a new collection of poems from California's 65 poets laureate. While there's only one statewide poet laureate, California cities and counties ranging from Altadena to San Luis Obispo and Modesto have their own citizen poets, all bringing their written observations to wider audiences in their communities. We invited three poets to talk with us about their writing: California's Poet Laureate Carol Muske-Dukes, Sacramento's first Poet Laureate Viola Weinberg and Linda Noel, the former poet laureate of Ukiah.
