Governor to Legislature: Come Up With a Plan
The state is staggering fiscally, reeling from the one-two punch of the worst recession since the Great Depression and the budget crisis. In a short speech before a joint session of the Legislature yesterday, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger urged lawmakers to get back into the ring and come up with a compromise plan to tackle the state's multi-billion dollar budget deficit.

Educators Forced to Find Cuts
With more budget cuts coming down the pike, many school districts in California are scaling way back. Some have already cut back or canceled summer school. Other likely strategies include shorter school years, bigger class sizes, and laying off more teachers.
