Salmon Protection Stirs Controversy
The National Marine Fisheries Service issued a biological opinion yesterday that argues for direct steps to protect young salmon moving through the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Among other things, the court-ordered report calls for a 5 to 7 percent cut in water deliveries for urban and agricultural uses, and those water users are not happy.
Green Stimulus Projects Underway
Federal stimulus money has started to roll into California, and environmental projects will take up about $2.5 billion of that money. The projects range from creating flood control levees, to fixing waste water plants, to the final cleanup of one of the most toxic sites in the nation.
