Governor Schwarzenegger is reportedly planning more furloughs and layoffs of state employees in the New Year, along with additional cuts to education. That means state universities and colleges will likely be forced to turn away thousands of students. In response, some California lawmakers want to give two-year community colleges the ability to award bachelor's degrees.
Mammogram Program Loses Funding and Cuts Patients
As of January first, a California program that screened more than 300,000 low-income women for breast cancer last year will stop accepting new patients. And when it resumes again next summer, only women over the age of 50 will be eligible.
