Each year, whether you need it or not, you're getting a new phone book. So is every household in America. Over 800,000 tons of phone books are produced in the U.S. annually, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Now, one state senator is proposing to lighten that load by virtually eliminating white pages from California doorsteps.
