It's been said the only real job of California's lieutenant governor is to get up every morning, make sure the governor is still alive, and then go back to bed. But while the job has few formal duties, it will take center stage this afternoon as a senate committee considers Governor Schwarzenegger's choice for the job: Abel Maldonado. However, the legislature may not be so eager to hand Maldonado a promotion.
