The Winter Olympics in Vancouver will no doubt inspire a new generation of athletes to strap on their skis, skates and snowboards in search of Olympic gold. They have plenty of California role models. On Thursday, J.R. Celski from Monterey won a bronze medal in short track speedskating, coming in right behind teammate Apolo Ohno. Short track speedskating is a kind of free-for-all on ice that features a pack of athletic skaters racing around a tiny track. The sport has a big following in California -- and not just among kids.
