Governor Schwarzenegger has resubmitted the nomination of Republican State Senator Abel Maldonado to be lieutenant governor, less than a week after the state Assembly rejected him. If Maldonado is eventually confirmed, he would become the highest ranking Latino Republican in California politics. You might think that would motivate Latino politicians to rally around him, but it was Latino Democrats in the State Assembly who led the charge against Maldonado.
