Trying to Break the Legislative Logjam
Democrats in Sacramento joined forces with the bipartisan group California Forward yesterday to introduce a set of major reforms. One would put an end to monumental budget battles in the legislature by switching to a majority vote instead of the two-thirds requirement now in place.

California Condor Calling Contest
Pinnacles National Monument in the rugged hills 100 miles southeast of San Francisco is home to a few dozen endangered California condors. For the first time in a century, a pair of condors at Pinnacles has produced an egg. This happy event led our staff to wonder what a condor laying an egg would sound like.
