GOP Candidates for Governor Revisit Immigration Wars
As election season gets underway, the issue of immigration is again sparking debate. This week, Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner released an ad calling for an end to state-funded services for undocumented immigrants, a move many Latinos call divisive. His primary opponent, Meg Whitman, is being advised by former governor Pete Wilson, whose support for Prop. 187 is credited for driving Latino voters into the Democratic Party. For the past few months, Scott Shafer has been talking with military families about how the death of their loved ones in Iraq and Afghanistan changed their lives -- years after their loss. In this second part of his look at military families and grief, we hear from some of the siblings, parents and widows left behind.

Hunger in the Golden State, Part II - The Food Stamp Quandary
Joblessness and the recession have left many Californians hungry. Millions of households in the state turn to food stamps to feed themselves and their families. But many aren't getting the food aid they need. That's the focus of the second part in our Hunger in the Golden State series, produced in collaboration with California Watch and the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at USC. Today, we look at how red tape and fear may be locking out hundreds of thousands of people from the food stamp program. [Ashley Ragovin, Emilie Mutert and Katie Evarts contributed to this report.]
