A wide-ranging case of fraud in the processed tomato industry has been moving through the courts of California and New York. Three defendants went before a U.S. district judge in Sacramento yesterday. A former corporate purchasing manager for Safeway pleaded guilty to accepting bribes. The alleged mastermind of the tomato scheme, Frederick Scott Salyer, sits in Sacramento County Jail.
