"The short answer is no," said Federal Communications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski, in response to a question from the audience about whether the federal government will sponsor public broadband access.

"Private investment is what has driven and what will drive that," he said. "We have a unique  competitive advantage in this country that motivates entreprenesurs in the edge of this network. That’s our vision of the future. It will be the private sector and private companies that drive the highways."
