As the population ages and we live longer, more Americans are becoming informal caregivers for aging family members. What are the physical, psychological and financial costs to caregivers? Is California prepared to address the increasing need for services and support? We discuss these questions in a special remote broadcast from the Downtown Oakland Multipurpose Senior Center.

Guests:

Andrew Scharlach, Eugene and Rose Kleiner professor of aging at UC Berkeley and director of the Center for the Advanced Study of Aging Services

Kathleen Kelly, executive director of Family Caregiver Alliance, a San Francisco-based education, advocacy and research organization

Margaret I. Wallhagen, professor in the department of physiological nursing and director of the John A. Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence at the UCSF School of Nursing

Monica Nowakowski-Carlson, clinical social worker in private practice specializing in family caregiver issues and geriatric mental health
