In his new book “Brown Is the New White,” civil rights lawyer Steve Phillips criticizes the Democratic Party for continuing to chase white swing voters while largely ignoring the growing demographic of progressive people of color. An alliance of these groups would amount to a majority of the electorate and have the potential to transform U.S. politics, he writes. Phillips, former president of the San Francisco Board of Education and a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, joins us in the studio to talk about the book and this year’s elections.

Steve Phillips, author of "Brown is the New White: How the Demographic Revolution Has Created a New American Majority"
