UCSF has received $20 million to fund research to find a basis for an HIV cure in the next five years. UCSF’s effort is the centerpiece of the American Foundation for AIDS Research, or amfAR’s, $100 million campaign to cure AIDS. For years a cure seemed impossible, but amfAR says research has progressed enough that within 5 years, they hope to know the most feasible way to achieve a cure.
