UC Berkeley astronomy professor Geoffrey Marcy, considered one of the world’s top experts on planets outside our solar system, stepped down Wednesday in the wake of a sexual harassment investigation. The school’s six-month investigation concluded that Marcy violated campus sexual harassment policies from 2001 to 2010, with women alleging inappropriate touching and massages. The university had initially placed him on probation, a decision that was criticized as being too lax.
