Award-winning composer Stephen Sondheim joins us to discuss his career and his new book, an annotated collection of his lyrics from 1954-1981. We also check in with Broadway legend Arthur Laurents, who wrote “West Side Story” and directed the new revival of the musical.

Stephen Sondheim wrote the lyrics for the musicals “West Side Story,” “Company,” “Follies,” “A Little Night Music” and “Sweeney Todd” among many others. His new book is titled “Finishing the Hat: Collected Lyrics (1954-1981) with Attendant Comments, Principles, Heresies, Grudges, Whines and Anecdotes.”

Arthur Laurents wrote the books for several hit Broadway musicals, including “West Side Story” and “Gypsy,” and directed the musicals “I Can Get It for You Wholesale” and “La Cage Aux Folles.” He also directed the 2009 Broadway revival of “West Side Story,” which is currently playing in San Francisco.
