This show originally aired on July20, 2018.

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Jon Meacham is no fan of President Trump, who he says has failed as a moral leader and holds his own interests over those of the country. But Meacham says that our nation has lived through — and survived — similar periods of fear and partisanship. In his new book “The Soul of America,” Meacham looks at how past presidents and influential activists like Ulysses S. Grant and Martin Luther King Jr. have guided the nation out of strife and what it takes to appeal to the “better angels” of the American soul.

Guests:

Jon Meacham,  author, “The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels”
