Border Patrol’s Abuse of Haitian Migrants, Ethiopian Blockade, Pfizer Vaccines for Children

The Department of Homeland Security is launching an investigation into the treatment of Haitian migrants at the U.S. border after images and video surfaced showing inhumane treatment by Border Patrol Agents. The footage shows agents chasing the migrants on horseback which they used to block them, grabbing them, and uttering expletives in their direction. Many prominent Democrats have spoken out against the federal agents and the Biden administration for allowing these actions to occur. Former HUD Secretary Julián Castro endorsed President Biden during his campaign, but has been outspoken against the recent conduct of Border Patrol agents as well as several other Biden administration policies towards asylum seekers. We speak with Castro about this recent criticism. Then, a months-long blockade on humanitarian aid into the Tigray region of Ethiopia by the Ethiopian government has caused some Tigrayans to starve to death. The U.S. government is threatening sanctions in response to the blockade, but Ethiopia’s government appears unwilling to budge, preferring to prevent any possibility of aid reaching Tigrayan fighters. On Monday, Pfizer announced that its COVID-19 vaccine had proven to be safe and highly effective for children ages 5 to 11. Now, it’s up to the FDA to authorize the use of the vaccine for this age group, which some expect to happen by the end of October. see more
