Hearings begin today on an ambitious development plan for the long dormant Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. The Lennar development group is proposing 10,000 units of housing, space for a 49ers stadium, commercial and industrial facilities and public parks at the former military base. We get an overview of the project from advocates, and concerns from opponents.

Guests:

Arthur Feinstein, chair of the Conservation Committee for the San Francisco Group of the Sierra Club

Aurelious Walker, pastor, chair of the African American Revitalization Consortium and a 40-year resident of Hunters Point

Christine Johnson, secretary of the Hunters Point Shipyard Citizens Advisory Committee

Chris Jackson, Bayview-Hunters Point resident, member of the San Francisco Community College board of trustees and candidate for San Francisco supervisor, District 10

Willie Ratcliff, publisher of the San Francisco Bayview and vice president of the Bay Area Black Builders Association
