Proposition 17 proposes to extend continuous coverage benefits to drivers even if they switch insurance companies. Currently, if you switch providers, you cannot carry over the continuous coverage discount. Proponents argue that the measure will save drivers money and encourage competition in the auto insurance market. Opponents say the proposition is an attempt by insurance companies, specifically Mercury General, to increase their profits by charging new fees that are currently illegal.
