Project Runway is much like cockroaches or Cher, in that it just refuses to die and will likely outlast you and your grandchildren. The show has survived a year-long stint in legal limbo, an ill-conceived move to LA, and an abysmal sixth season that left many fans wishing someone would just take the aging show out back and put it out of its misery.

But Project Runway prevailed over all of its troubles and, last night, its seventh season premiered on Lifetime (the network geared towards women and gays who don’t mind terrible made-for-TV movies and a good cry). Even though the show has lost some of its initial spark over the years, the premiere episode was overall pretty enjoyable. Maybe critics and former fans were too hasty in suggesting euthanasia.

Here are five reasons why Season 7 is worth watching:

1. The breakout star is already plainly clear. His name is Anthony. He’s gay, black, and from Alabama and he won’t let you forget it, honey! He’s already made the normally poised Tim Gunn and guest judge Nicole Richie crack up. Are you next?

Project Runway is on every Thursday at 10p on Lifetime.
