Beloved Bay Area weirdo John Waters will return for his third year as host at this summer’s Burger Boogaloo music festival, taking place July 1 and 2 in Oakland’s Mosswood Park.
The festival’s lineup, always a celebration of old-school punk and rockabilly, features some heavy hitters this year: the predictably unpredictable proto-punk forefather Iggy Pop, who marked 2016 with the new album Post Pop Depression — and who’ll turn 70 in April — serves as headliner.

Alongside him will be the seminal British punks Buzzcocks and L.A.’s first-wave scene-setter X (whose John Doe, an East Bay resident, is working overtime these days as an author in addition to his solo country-folk career).
The rest of the lineup for the fifth annual fest includes Guitar Wolf, Nobunny, NRBQ, Personal & The Pizzas, Quintron & Ms. Pussycat, Shannon & the Clams, La Luz, Baby Shakes, Bloodshot Bill, Roy Loney, Jacuzzi Boys, Wounded Lion, Car Crash, and Glitter Wizard. Per tradition, other bands and performers will likely be announced closer to the festival date.
Tickets, which start at $69, are currently onsale for the two-day party; visit the Burger Boogaloo website here for details.
