Oakland’s own Fantastic Negrito shared the stage with presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and several other notable artists at Sanders’ last campaign stop in New Hampshire on Monday, Feb. 8.

Fantastic Negrito, whose real name is Xavier Dphrepaulezz, joined Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Young the Giant and many others at a rally at the University of New Hampshire, Durham campus the night before primary voting began in the state.

In videos posted on his social media accounts, Dphrepaulezz can be seen telling an audiences of thousands to “get out the vote” and shaking hands with Sanders himself.

An Oakland resident since 1979 who has been playing music off and on since the ’90s, Dphrepaulezz was the winner of last year’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert Contest. He would later make headlines when he was detained by police before his set at Outside Lands because an intern that worked for him scalped a wristband for the event.
