Napa County, Measure B

Should Napa County enact a new 0.5% sales tax to fund wildfire preparedness, watershed protection and open space preservation?

The measure would impose a new half-cent sales tax, which would generate an estimated $23 million annually for 18 years. Passes with a majority vote.

Yes Argument

Napa County has endured major wildfire disasters in the recent past and will face more in the future. Without action, insurance companies will cancel more homeowner policies and further raise rates. The measure raises money to clear brush and fire hazards, make firebreaks and create safe evacuation routes. It would also protect local drinking water and preserve thousands of acres of open space for future generations. The tax money would stay local and be overseen by an oversight committee to make sure it is spent appropriately.

No Argument

Citizens of Napa County pay enough between existing sales and parcel taxes. The county already funds parks and open space through its hotel taxes. Now is not the time to add more taxes during an affordability crisis.
