"bio": "• I write and edit stories about how Silicon Valley power and policies shape everyday life in California. I’m also passionate about making Bay Area history and culture more accessible to a broad public. • I’ve been a journalist for most of my life, starting in high school with The Franklin Press in Los Angeles, where I grew up. While earning my first degree in English at UC Berkeley, I got my start in public radio at KALX-FM. After completing a second degree in journalism at Cal, I landed my first professional job at Marketplace, then moved on to KPCC (now LAist), and then KQED, where I hosted The California Report for more than seven years. • My reporting has appeared on NPR, The World, WBUR’s \u003ci>Here & Now\u003c/i>, and the BBC. I also guest host for KQED’s \u003ci>Forum\u003c/i>, as well as the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. • I speak periodically on media, democracy and technology issues, and do voiceover work for documentaries and educational video projects. • Outside of the studio, you'll find me hiking Bay Area trails and whipping up Insta-ready meals in my kitchen. • I do not accept gifts, money, or favors from anyone connected to my reporting, I don't pay people for information, and I do not support or donate to political causes. • I strive to treat the people I report on with fairness, honesty, and respect. Ronnie Lopez. While my better self tells me to ignore this kind of thing, I have to admit, I would be disingenuous in claiming that I don’t glue my eyes to any video screen flashing Palin in my face. She’s definitely got…something…\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Obviously, the Bay Area doesn’t represent the heart of Palin country. An event organizer estimated about 1,400 people paid $25 to $199 to see Palin, the Merc reported, out of 2,665 available seats. Perhaps local reaction is best captured in the Chronicle’s \u003ca href=\"http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/nov05election/detail?entry_id=74660>a=commentslistpos#commentslistpos\">comments section\u003c/a>.\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>-A Repub accusing someone else of living in fantasy land? That’s rich. Here’s a fantasy for you – Republicans are fiscally responsible.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>-Palin talking fantasyland smack. I didn’t know I could laugh and puke at the same time.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>-Give them a few simple, colorful phrases and they can entertain themselves for weeks.\u003cbr>\nI don’t even want to think about what is going on in her subconscious with her “drill, baby drill” and unicorn references.\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>But at least one Republican weighed in:\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>Boy Boy Boy, the mere mention of Sarah Palin’s name brings explosive diarrhea, instant anger, and pulling one’s hair out in some people.
