Unless Congress acts by March 1, a series of automatic cuts will kick in across the country. California will lose roughly $88 million in K-12 funding, approximately $2.5 million to help the state respond to public health threats, $54 million for military bases, and about 64,000 civilian Defense Department employees would be furloughed.
