In 1982, Susan Burton's life began to spiral out of control. It was the same year her young son was killed in a car accident in South Los Angeles. She began drinking and soon, that turned into hard drug use, which put her in prison. Inside, she didn't get help for her addiction or the emotional pain fueling it. After she was released, Burton was determined to not let other women in similar circumstances fall through the cracks. The California Report's L.A. Bureau Chief, Steven Cuevas has more.
