Legislating Food Waste
Americans throw out up to 40 percent of their food, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic. One of the reasons for that is confusion over "sell-by" and expiration dates. California Assemblyman David Chiu is tackling this issue with new legislation to simplify how food is labeled.
