Saying it was "very irresponsible on the part of the president," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused the White House of leaking plans for a congressional delegation to fly commercially to Afghanistan.

After Pelosi wrote a letter to President Trump suggesting he postpone his planned State of the Union address because of the partial government shutdown, the president sent his own letter to the speaker canceling transport for a Democratic delegation to Afghanistan.

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said that "in light of the grave threats caused by the President's action, the delegation has decided to postpone the trip so as not to further endanger our troops and security personnel, or the other travelers on the flights."
