The fires in Northern California have scorched more than 221,000 acres, and smoke can be seen all across the Bay Area. Approximately 90,000 people have been evacuated from their homes statewide, and over 5000 homes and buildings have been destroyed. Due to the poor air quality, many schools have canceled classes for the week.
As polluted air crawls through cities, a hazy shadow has been cast over everyday life. Ashes are falling on cars, and each sunset is a surreal view, out of an apocalyptic movie.
We asked Bay Area residents to share images of the North Bay wildfires. From Clear Lake to San Jose, residents sent in obscured views of landmarks and dark red sunsets.
