Accusing the White House of "lies, plain and simple," former FBI Director James Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday.

I was live-drawing the hearing Thursday morning, focusing on Comey and our senators from California.  While Comey was testifying before the Senate, President Trump was touting his infrastructure plan to a friendlier crowd in Ohio.

When it was her turn to question Comey, California's freshman Sen. Kamala Harris made a memorable analogy as she pointed out Trump's use of the word "hope" when allegedly telling the FBI director, "I hope you can let this go" -- referring to the inquiry into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

"When a robber held a gun to somebody’s head and said, 'I hope you give me your wallet,' the word hope was not the operative word at that moment," Harris said.
